Industrial design

Growing competition on the market and a multitude of available products featuring analogous functions cause that every new product should stand out from the rest due to its functionality, ergonomics and original appearance. The freedom of design of products produced utilizing the injection moulding technology is a subject of many limitations. This significantly affects the appearance of the final product.

We try to implement our concepts at part’s conceptual stage, due to the fact that some solutions improving aesthetics can significantly influence the way of moulding the detail, as well as geometrical parameters necessary to maintain the technological feasibility of the element. Knowledge of the rules regarding plastics processing allows us to identify areas of the part which feature a potential risk of various visual defects and hide them by means of appropriate design. It is also necessary to maintain ergonomic aspects, which can be tested by manufacturing a prototype or 3D printout of the new product.

In case of modifications performed on existing tools we try to introduce changes in such a way that they do not break the technological aspects of the moulded part, while minimising the costs of tool modifications.

WORKPIECE PARAMETERS OPTIMISATION

Tool adjustment

Goal:
Reduce part weight and optimize production efficiency by modifying a HP die cast mold for aluminium (designed and manufactured by a competitive company)
Actions:
Relieving the weight of a workpiece by introducing ribbing, wall thickness correction in non-visible areas, applying industrial design to visible areas.
Result:
Part weight reduced by 30%
Production cycle time reduced by 20%

Increasing production efficiency

Tool adjustment

Goal:
Increase production efficiency and reduce part weight by adapting forming nests and tool functional sections
Actions:
Normalisation of wall thickness, introduction of ribbing in thermal junction areas, increased efficiency of the thermostatic system for cavities and forming cores
Result:
Improved workpiece surface quality
Eliminated problems associated with casting defects
Reduced part weight from 2.4kg to 1.9kg
